Annual Show 2010

 The Exhibitors arrive

From 9.30 onwards the exhibitors arrived with their entries. They were greeted by our team of volunteers who  helped them through the process of registering their entries.

  Staging

The Staging Stewards assisted the exhibitors to stage their entries.

As more and more entries were received the tables were quickly filling up and creating quite an impact.

Eventually, the tables were covered with entries.

 Viewing time

As the entries increased the exhibitors mingled and took the opportunity to view all the entries.

It was nice to see so many entries.

YAA members had ensured that the Show would be successful from a quality and quantity perspective.

There were so many colourful exhibits.

It was good to see so many YAA members supporting the Show.

A number of members brought friends and relatives along to see the Show.

 Judging

At 11.30 the Judges began their task.

Manny Roper and Dave Cunningham were supported by four Stewards.

The Judges worked their way through the various classes.

The Stewards recorded the results as the Judge conveyed his verdict on each entry.

Dave dealt with the Home Produce while Manny covered the other classes.

For many YAA members this was the first time that our produce had been scrutinised by Judges.

Normally the only time that it comes under such critical inspection is at home while preparing and eating it.

Of course the whole area is cleared before the Judges carry out their role and their deliberations and comments are out of earshot.

Nevertheless it is facinating to see them go about their business and quite intriguing as they consider the entries.

The whole operation was carried out by two very experienced Judges and to  very exacting standards.

 Prize cards

We are fortunate to have a practitioner of calligraphy amongst our membership.

Bob Ridout entered the names of all of the prize winners onto the prize cards.

The results

This was the moment that many exhibitors had been waiting for.

The judging was completed and the Judges had made their decisions.

The prize cards had been placed by the successful entries.

The   Competiters were now able to enter the Show area and view the results.

Of course not everyone can win. For most entrants the day was about taking part and enjoying the experience of our first Show

Nevertheless it was interesting to see the judges decisions and the names of the members who were successful.

Undoubtably, we have some very good gardeners and growers within our membership.

The entries were of a very high standard.

It was nice to see all the entries again, but this time with a possible award against the produce.

Now that the decisions had been made it was a good time to stroll around the tables and chat with other members as well as taking in all the results.

All four Show classes were well supported and there were also a number of 'exhibition' displays to admire.

A key feature was that the vegetable entries were predominantly  'grown for the table'. The entries were superb examples of allotment fare. Potatoes, onions and runner beans were very popular entries.

The Childrens class entries were extremely imaginative and attracted considerable attention .

Home produce was another class that attracted a large number of entries and the flowers provided a wonderful range of shape and colour.

There were some specialist entries that were staged as exhibition items and not as entries in the Show.  These included vegetables and Dhalias.

Our Chairman Manny Roper and Treasurer Dave Cunningham judged the entries.

The Show was opened by Adam Wallis, Manager of Brimsmore Gardens, who sponsored the event.

The Chairman, Manny Roper thanked everyone for their marvellous contribtion.

The Mayor accompanied by the Mayoress presented the prizes and the final event of the day was the raffle draw. More than twenty prizes had  been kindly donated by YAA members.  The raffle attracted many entries and a total of £122 was raised.

The Show was a great success. It succeeded because of the knowledge, expertise and committment of the members. Those who worked hard to organise the Show, those who volunteered and provided the resource on the day and those who grew and entered their produce.
